Guided Tours

Luxury guided tours, with someone else at the wheel.

A luxury guided tour is for the trip where you don't want to worry about a single transfer. A tour director, a driver, hotels in the center of town and guides who know the history. You just show up.

The trick is picking the right one. Tours differ a lot in group size, pace, hotel level and how much free time you get. I match you to the right company and the right departure.

The tour companies I work with

Luxury Gold and Trafalgar

Luxury Gold for small groups, top hotels and private experiences. Trafalgar for well-run guided trips across Europe and beyond. I'm certified with both.

Brendan Vacations

Ireland and Britain, guided or self-drive. I'm certified with Brendan.

CIE Tours and Rocky Mountaineer

CIE Tours for Ireland and Britain, and Rocky Mountaineer for the train through the Canadian Rockies. These are companies I book.

How to pick the right tour

I look at group size first, then the hotels, then the pace. Two nights per stop is very different from one. So is a 7 a.m. bag call.

I'll also add nights before or after the tour, so you arrive rested and have a few slow days at the end.

Is a guided tour right for you?

It fits you if

  • You want the history and the stories behind every stop.
  • You'd rather not drive or plan transfers.
  • You like meeting other travelers along the way.

It's not the best fit if

  • You hate fixed schedules. A custom itinerary fits better.
  • You want total privacy. A private guide fits better.

Questions

Questions I get asked

May, June, September and October. The weather is good and the crowds are smaller than in July and August.

Travelers who want everything handled, love learning from a great guide and enjoy good company. They're popular with seasoned travelers and first-timers to a region alike.

Anyone who wants to set their own pace every day.

I compare group sizes, hotels and pace across companies, pick the departure that fits and add the nights before and after. You pay the same price as booking direct.

Arrive a day early. Jet lag on day one of a tour is a rough start.

Eight to fourteen nights, plus a night or two on each end.

Six to twelve months. Small-group and luxury departures fill first.

Hotels, many meals, transport, a tour director and guided sightseeing. Flights, some meals and optional experiences usually cost extra. I list what's included on your departure.

You'll connect through a hub like Minneapolis, Chicago, Denver or Dallas, then fly overnight to the tour's starting city.

Tell me where you want to go and how you like to travel. I'll find the tour that fits.

I reply within one business day.
