AmaWaterways river ship on the Danube passing the Hungarian Parliament in Budapest, luxury river cruise

Luxury River Cruises in Europe and Beyond

Unpack once. Wake up somewhere new.

A luxury river cruise is the slow way to see Europe. Vienna, Budapest or the vineyards of the Rhine show up outside your window while you're having breakfast. I'm a river cruise travel agent in Sioux Falls, certified with AmaWaterways, Avalon, Scenic, Viking, Emerald, Riviera and Celebrity River Cruises, and I plan river cruises for clients all over the country. I match you to the right river, the right ship and the right cabin, then handle the flights and hotel nights on either end so the whole trip works, from your front door to the gangway and back.

River cruising is slow travel by design. You unpack once, and the next village is waiting when you wake up.

Choosing your river

Every river has its own personality. The Danube is grand cities and music, with Vienna and Budapest on the same trip. The Rhine is castles, vineyards and small towns you'd never find on your own. The Seine takes you to Normandy and Monet's garden at Giverny. The Douro in Portugal is terraced vineyards and port wine, and the Rhône runs through Provence and up toward Burgundy.

Europe isn't the only option either. AmaWaterways also sails the Nile in Egypt, the Chobe River in Botswana, where your safari happens from the water, the Mekong through Vietnam and Cambodia, and the Magdalena in Colombia. Tell me how you like to travel and I'll tell you which river fits.

Choosing your river cruise line

The line matters as much as the river. AmaWaterways is the line I recommend most, and I'm certified with them. Their fares include unlimited wine, beer and soft drinks with lunch and dinner, a cocktail hour every day, bikes onboard and several guided excursion choices in each port, from easy walks to active tours. They also welcome families, which matters if you're bringing grown kids or grandkids along.

Emerald Cruises is another line I'm certified with. Celebrity River Cruises starts sailing the Rhine and Danube in 2027, with a fare that includes drinks, Wi-Fi and an excursion in every port. I also book Avalon Waterways and other luxury lines, and I'll tell you plainly which one fits you.

AmaWaterways or Viking?

I'm certified with Viking too, and AmaWaterways is still my first recommendation. Viking includes one excursion per port and beer and wine with lunch and dinner. AmaWaterways gives you several excursion choices in each port, unlimited drinks with meals, a cocktail hour every day and bikes to explore on your own. For most travelers that's more of the trip already included.

Christmas market river cruises

Christmas market river cruises run from late November through December on the Rhine and the Danube. You wander a market with mulled wine in your hand, then walk back to a warm ship instead of waiting on a hotel shuttle. If December is your month, earlier is better for cabin choice.

I'm also planning a small hosted Christmas Markets group. Join the interest list and you'll hear first when it's confirmed.

Why book your river cruise through me

River cruise cabins are small, and the difference between categories is real. A French balcony, a full balcony or a suite changes how the whole week feels. I pick the cabin with you, book flights that land you rested, and add hotel nights before or after in Budapest, Amsterdam or Prague so you aren't rushing to the ship. The cruise fare is the same as booking direct. If you want flights, hotels and transfers planned around it, I'll quote my planning fee up front. I stay on it until you're home.

Questions

Questions I get asked

If you want to see several European cities without packing and unpacking, yes. You unpack once, dock close to the center of town most days, and meals, drinks with dinner and guided tours are usually part of the fare.

It depends on what you want included and who's traveling with you. AmaWaterways is my first recommendation for most travelers because of its excursion choices, drinks and bikes. Celebrity River Cruises launches in 2027 with an all-inclusive fare. I'll match you to the line that fits.

I'm certified with AmaWaterways, Avalon, Scenic, Viking, Emerald, Riviera and Celebrity River Cruises and lean AmaWaterways. Viking includes one excursion per port and beer and wine with meals. AmaWaterways adds several excursion choices a day, a daily cocktail hour and bikes onboard.

Late November through December, while the markets are open. Earlier sailings are usually quieter, and the weeks right before Christmas bring the biggest crowds.

No. The cruise fare is the same as booking direct. If you want flights, hotels and transfers planned around it, I'll quote my planning fee up front. I pick the right cabin, line up flights and hotel nights on either end, and handle the changes so you don't have to.

As soon as you know your dates. The most popular cabins and sailing dates go first, and booking early gives you the most choice.
